A powerful front generating heavy rain, thunderstorms, and warm air, is moving offshore this morning.

It’s a clash of the air masses, with warm humid air streaming up from Florida, and cold air coming down on the backside of the front. The air up in the sky is moving at about 60 mph, and that kind of wind can mix down in early morning thunderstorms.

The storm threat is greatest in eastern Maine to Cape Cod through 9 a.m. Then the showers begin to break up.

Temperatures start out in the 50s and 60s south, 40s north. Much drier and colder air whips in midday.

Wind increases from the west sustained 20 to 30 mph, with frequent gusts past 50 mph. A wind warning in effect for much of the region this afternoon and evening. Wind gradually eases overnight, with temperatures cooling to the 20s and 30s north, to about 40 degrees south to start half our Sunday.

High pressure takes over Sunday with sunshine and much less wind. Cool high temperature in the 40s north to low 50s south.

Sunday night football looks nice and quiet with the temperature falling through the 40s and very little wind.

Clouds return Monday as a warm front approaches from the south, but it should stay dry with a high temperature in the 50s. Showers arrive Monday night, with a low temperature in the 30s and 40s.

Election Day Tuesday is a tough call, as another powerful front will be approaching and we have some showers around. There may be another line of severe thunderstorms forming to our west, that may make it in before the end of voting time.

Much warmer air will move in late Tuesday and Wednesday, before more seasonable and dryer weather returns for the second half of next week.
