Thunderstorm Threats, Humidity Returning to New England

What to Know

  • TODAY:
  • TOMORROW: Chance of strong thunderstorms.
  • LOOKING AHEAD: Temps could reach up to 90 degrees this week.

After a couple of days with lower humidity, we will have the air gradually become a bit more sticky on our Tuesday, and then right back with a full on tropical feel on Wednesday.

Waves of low pressure tracked with a bit of rain just off our south coast overnight. Otherwise, it was cloudy with patchy fog with temperature in the 60s to near 70 degrees to start the day.

Sunshine should burn through the clouds for a fairly nice Tuesday. High temperatures are expected to be in the 70s at the beach, 80s inland, with just a slight chance of a shower or brief thunderstorm. The wind is light and variable. A more significant warm front crosses New England Wednesday, with heavy clouds and tropical downpours. We may have some strong to severe thunderstorms as well.

There may be some sunny breaks, but for the most part it's a damp day, with temperature close to 80 degrees.

The dewpoint will warm to the 70s, some of the downpours may result in localized flash flooding, and storms may cause wind damage.

The front responsible for Wednesday's rain stalls and weakens over New England the second half of the week into the weekend. We end up with a very similar pattern to last week, where we have fog at night, burning off to sun and clouds with very stick air, with a chance of heavy downpours and thunderstorms each afternoon.

The temperature will warm close to 90 degrees by the weekend and early next week.
