This weekend, we're tracking some showers, but not in the form you're probably expecting. We're tracking the peak of the Orionid Meteor Shower, which will likely peak just before dawn on Saturday, Oct. 21.

What's so special about this particular meteor shower this time around?

The correlation between visible sky conditions, meaning mostly clear skies overnight Friday into early Saturday, coupled with a waxing crescent moon that sets in the early evening Friday, means you'll likely be able to catch a glimpse of quite a few meteors flying across the dark night sky in a fiery display. We could even see 10-20 meteors per hour in the pre-dawn hours Saturday. Plus, this time of year, the sunrise is not until a little after 7 a.m., so if you have a few wishes, you might want to set your alarm clock early Saturday to see a few shooting stars in the night sky.

Also, note that even better viewing will be away from cities and heavily lit areas.

Send us your photos and where you were able to see them at shareit@necn.com.
