    What to Know

    • Temperatures are on the way up today, with highs by afternoon reaching the 30s and 40s.

    • Tonight's skies will clear and temperatures drop again.

    • Monday stays sunny during the day, with highs in the 20s and 30s.

Temperatures are on the way up today, with highs by afternoon reaching the 30s and 40s. A gusty south wind will develop over the course of the day.

We’ll see a general mix of sun and clouds, with the dullest conditions over the mountains of Northern and Western New England. Snow will also fall over the mountains today, accumulating 1-3 inches over the high terrain as a weak disturbance pivots though.

As that system pulls away tonight skies will clear and temperatures drop again. By morning expect single digits above and below zero in Northern New England, with teens and 20s in Southern New England.

Monday stays sunny during the day, with highs in the 20s and 30s.

Our next storm arrives late in the day on Tuesday, mainly after dark in most spots. Snow will break out from west to east, and will quickly mix with and change to rain in much of Southern New England.

Where this storm stays all snow, in Western New England and in Northern New England, this will likely be plowable with several inches accumulating.

From Worcester to Boston, where any early snow mixes or changes to rain, accumulations will be minimal. Keep in mind, however, that even here we’ll likely end as a burst of snow Wednesday morning as colder air wraps in behind the departing storm. That will likely result in some slippery spots during the Wednesday morning commute.

The cold air behind that storm will keep flowing in late week, with highs only reaching the teens in many spots. Lows will be in the single digits above and below zero.

A little deeper into February it looks like temperatures will begin to moderate again.
