Storms Subside and Heat Rolls In

Heat is on tap as New England dries out from Saturday's storms.

    (Published Sunday, July 2, 2017)

It was an amazing day of severe weather in Northern New England. 6 tornado warnings were issued, with one confirmed tornado on Sebago Lake in Maine. Thousands are without power thanks to the strong winds, while many communities saw washed out roads and inundated basements due to torrential rain.

The front that touched off the storms is marching for Southern New England tonight. I don't expect the same outbreak of severe weather, but we could have a few storms with heavy rain and some strong winds. Threat remains low for these storms to get out of hand.

As the front crosses, the air will slowly dry out tomorrow. Humidity will be high to start, then lower in the afternoon with an establishing west wind. Sun dominates - may have to wait until midday on the Cape/Islands - and the air is still very warm. Screams beach day to me, so pack the sunscreen and put your toes in the sand.

Ditto for Monday. Highs again soar into the 80s under a good supply of sun. Independence day is nice as well, but the highs will be a bit below normal - toppinig out in the mid and upper 70s regionwide. Superb for fireworks in the evening with clear skies and great visibility.

Enjoy and be safe this holiday weekend!
