Monday night: Areas of fog. Lows in the 60s. Tuesday: Humid again, very warm. Highs in the 80s.

    (Published Monday, Sept. 25, 2017)

Record-challenging temperatures will soar to 85-90 degrees again this afternoon as a summer swelter continues here in the start of fall.

Along the coast, a sea breeze will cap temperatures about five degrees cooler and nosedive temperatures to the 70s by late day, but the vast majority of us will remain storm-free, save for an isolated evening storm in the mountains of far Northern and Western New England.

Very humid air remains through the first half of the week, meaning a muggy night with areas of fog overnight tonight, then a nearly repeat day Tuesday, regionwide.

A cold front approaching New England by midweek will be slow enough for one more warm and sticky day Wednesday, though the approach of the front will raise our chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday evening, particularly the farther north and west one is.

The same disturbance driving the midweek cold front through us may interact with just enough moisture on the north side of Hurricane Maria – otherwise staying safely south of New England aside from waves of 10-12 feet on our southern waters Thursday into Friday – to increase the chance of showers Wednesday night into Thursday in eastern and especially southeastern New England, before much cooler, fall air pours in from the northwest.

A few scattered showers will be possible Friday as the cooler air continues to arrive, but the entire second half of the Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast shows fall firmly in charge.
