Looking Ahead to Widespread Rain on New Year's Eve, Snow North

The mountains and much of northern Maine has 3-6 inches of fresh powder in the forecast

After a gloomy start to our Sunday due to a disturbance that moved through the region this morning and left flurries in some spots, expect to see the sun this afternoon with seasonable temperatures.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 30s in Southern New England while 20s to the north. Mostly clear skies tonight with lows in the teens and 20s.

Clouds return on Monday as our next area of low pressure moves in from the southwest, and with temperatures in the 40s over Southern New England, expect rain across much of the area around dinner time.

Unfortunately, the rain will be widespread for First Night activities so make sure you have your rain gear handy and dress in layers. North of Route 2, that’s where the precipitation could start out as a wintry mix and then quickly transition to rain.

The mountains and much of northern Maine will get to rejoice in snow, where 3-6 inches of fresh powder is in the forecast and not expected to see much in the way of rain.

The storm moves out on Tuesday, allowing for the sun to shine on the first day of 2019. It will also be accompanied by highs in the 50s.

Then, it’s back to reality on Wednesday with highs in the 30s.

There’s a chance we get another storm late week and this one could bring a wintry mix on the onset and then change over to rain. Needless to say, our active pattern will continue into the new year and for now, it looks more wet than white.
