Damaging Winds and Heavy Rains Continue as Nor'easter Slams Region

    Weather Forecast: Rain, Wind Persist

    Tuesday: Windswept, heavy rain continues with 25 to 30 mph winds, gusting as high as 45 mph. Sleet and freezing rain impacts interior locations of northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Minor coastal flooding occurs across eastern Massachusetts. Highs near freezing north and in the low 40s south. Tuesday night: Cloudy with showers, mist and drizzle. Low/mid 30s. Wednesday: Sun returns! Mid 40s. Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a few afternoon showers. Milder. Near 50. (Published Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017)

    An Early Warning Weather Alert is in effect for damaging winds, heavy rains and icing until 12 pm. Heavy, windswept rains will continue to impact the region throughout the day as a coastal storm strengthens south of Long Island. We have been seeing winds gusting between 40 to 50 mph to as high as 62 mph in Rockport, Massachusetts. Minor coastal flooding will occur along the coast of eastern Massachusetts and the Cape and Islands.

    We are also monitoring the impacts of sleet and freezing rain across western and interior northern Mass. and southern New Hampshire where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m.

    Heavy rains continue into tonight as low pressure passes south of Nantucket, pinwheeling bands of rain across our area. Conditions begin to improve tomorrow as the storm moves away from New England. Scattered rain showers may linger across eastern Massachusetts and the Cape and Islands during the morning before diminishing. High pressure builds into the region from the south with maximum temperatures reaching between 45 to 50 degrees.

    A cold front pushes across New England on Thursday will bring increasing clouds and showers. Highs on Thursday will be near 50 across the south and in the upper 30s north. Looking ahead to the weekend, pleasant weather is expected with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 30s by Saturday and Sunday.
