A cold front crossed New England Thursday night, allowing temperatures to drop into the 30s and 40s this Friday morning in Northern New England and 50s to low 60s in Southern New England.

Despite lots of sunshine Friday, a stiff north-northeast wind blowing at 10 to 20 mph will keep temperatures locked in the upper 50s to near 60 during the afternoon.

Saturday will also be cool and partly cloudy, with temperatures in the low 60s for many. Temperatures warm back into the 70s in many spots on Sunday, but there will be a few more clouds and even a few spot showers in Northern New England.

Highs will settle back into the 60s on Columbus Day, only to then pop back into the 70s for the middle of next week. All the while foliage continues to progress around New England.

Peak color is now being reported in far Northern Maine, with peak conditions likely in Northern Vermont and New Hampshire this weekend. Moderate color has spread across the rest of those Northern New England states, with low color farther south.

Swells from Hurricane Leslie, the storm that still spins in the middle of the Atlantic, also continue to arrive at the coast.
