Another day in the 40s. Where is the cold air? Well, we went on a search and found it in Central Alaska. How do temps of -30 to -40 sound right about now?
I figured.
No worries on that making any progress to the Lower 48 just yet. (However, the arctic air should return by the end of next week.) Instead, we have our sights set on a developing nor'easter into early next week. This could be a biggie, and with cold air now looking like it might get drawn into the system, we could be dealing with a rain/snow line in Southern New England.
First things first though. The start of the weekend is looking rather mild with a mix of sun and clouds. Sunday we may see the first part of that storm tiptoe onto the scene with showers and wind for the Pats game. Timing is highly uncertain at this point in the (weather) game, but with a storm this large, we're giving it a wide berth.
Some of the elements we'll be defining in the days ahead include the amount of rain (potential is for at least 1-2" right now), the strength of the wind (gusts to 50+ are possible along the coast) and the rain/snow line.
Right now, coastal flooding seems minimal due to very low high tides at this point in the month. However, waves and seas will build, and lots of sand will be moving along the waterfront. Beach erosion will be significant.
