Steady rain north, with showers south Friday. The weather system that seemingly has taken a week to cross the nation has now arrived in New England.

We have a warm front crossing from south to north. The north side of the front is where it’s chilly. Temps are in the 40s in much of New Hampshire and Maine with the rain.

But in Vermont, and much of southern New England, we are getting into the warmer air with temperatures climbing through the 50s, possibly 60s by late in the day. Rainfall is steadiest north on a line from Brattleboro to Laconia to Bangor. That’s where rainfall amounts may exceed a half inch or an inch by Friday night.

But for much of southern New England, rainfall may not add up to more than a 10th or a quarter of an inch, and much of it is late in the day and overnight.

Low pressure pushes north and east away from us Saturday. High pressure moves in with clearing sky, high temperature should make 60 degrees in a lot of New England, and a few spots may pass 70 degrees.

It looks like a real nice start to our weekend.

Sunday is still a tough call. It looks like a bright start for our Mother’s Day, but there will be low pressure pushing at least some clouds in, if not some rain by late in the day. The timing is still a real tough call, but it looks like with enough sunshine, we may make the 60s after all.

Early next week is also a challenging forecast. Low pressure will be riding along in waves from both of our west and our south. It looks like we should get into some pretty cold rain here Monday, perhaps even changing to snow in the higher elevations if it lingers into Tuesday, especially in Maine.
