It’s going to be a wet and windy Boston Marathon. Temperatures for the race will only be in the 40s. There will be a heightened risk of hypothermia given these conditions. There might even be some sleet to begin the race in Hopkinton.

Runners will also face a headwind, which will continue to increase in intensity through the morning and into the afternoon. Expect the rain to be light to start the marathon which will turn locally heavy during the early afternoon. Thunderstorm chances are low during the race but increase during the afternoon.

The strongest winds will be experienced at the coast and in the higher elevations. Parts of the Green Mountains and Berkshires will see gusts over 60 mph. At the coast, the winds may exceed 50 mph.

The cold front will move through Monday night, but we won’t be done with the showers just yet. Tuesday and Wednesday will stay unsettled with the upper-level low sitting and spinning over the Great Lakes. Temperatures will not be as chilly and we should see some brightening of the skies those two days. Highs will likely reach the 50s both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another system will move through on Thursday. A period of moderate rain is possible. We will have to keep a close eye on the streams and rivers. With snowmelt and multiple rounds of rain, minor flooding is possible.

Drier weather will move in by the weekend. It appears both days should have a good amount of sunshine. Temperatures will be seasonable in the 50s.
