FIRST ALERT: Heavy Downpours, Thunder Heading Toward Region

An upper-level low-pressure system spinning off the mid-Atlantic Coast will track northward Monday, increasing rain coverage over much of the area by the afternoon. This disturbance will carry a pocket of cold air with it aloft, which will contrast with the relatively mild temperatures, in the 50s, at ground level. The contrasting temperatures will generate numerous showers, downpours and even some thunderstorms that will last through the evening.

Our exclusive NBC10/necn Forecast System is predicting around an inch of rain from these downpours, making for some big puddles and slowing the Monday evening commute. Overnight Monday, showers will weaken and pull away towards the east, lingering as isolated showers all the way into Tuesday morning. The sun will emerge from west to east during the course of the day.

Both Monday and Tuesday will bring a north-northeast wind, encouraging cool air to lap along the seashore. The wind will hold temperatures in the 50s, at best, along the coast while inland communities exceed 60 degrees both days.

Western New England will cross 70 degrees by Tuesday afternoon. Another area of low pressure will approach New England that night and into Wednesday morning, carrying a quick round of showers with it. Rain will give way ample sunshine Wednesday.

Yet another disturbance, predicted by our First Alert Weather Team, is expected to deliver showers late Friday into Friday night. Showers may return again later Sunday.

Temperatures through the 10-day never dip below the mid-50s for daytime highs—very close to where we should be for this time of the year.
