Hot, humid weather across southern New England on Thursday will lead into another stuffy overnight with lows in the 60s and 70s under partly cloudy skies. It will continue to be a bit more refreshing in Northern New England with lower humidity and lows in the 50s and 60s.

Friday becomes more active as a front moves towards the area. Clouds will increase from west to east, with scattered downpours and storms breaking out during the afternoon in particular. The storms will be most widespread north and west of Boston, with mostly dry conditions closer to the coast. That means there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beach for those on vacation. Highs will mainly reach the 80s.

Any storms that do fire up will contain locally heavy rain, lightning, and the potential of some isolated wind damage.

The weekend will still be a bit unsettled, unfortunately, with a fair amount of clouds both days.

On Saturday we’ll also still have to fight a few showers or a storm, particularly in Southern New England. That’s where the front will take longest to depart. Expect highs around 80.

Sunday will also feature plenty of clouds, but the risk of a spot shower is fairly low.

The bottom line is that it won’t be a great beach weekend, but it will be far from a washout with plenty of time to be outside.

Next week should start on a brighter, drier note.
