    What to Know

    • TODAY: Spotty winds, rain traveling through New England.

    • TOMORROW: Pop-up showers and thunderstorm possibilities.

    • LOOKING AHEAD: Another low-pressure system will arrive next week.

Tropical low pressure on an old front races from the Connecticut River Valley to the Merrimack Valley early Thursday morning.

The east side of this low-pressure system generates wind from the southeast, possibly gusting past 40 mph in the hills and near the seashore, resulting in spotty wind damage.

This low-pressure center is moving quite quickly and is in Northern Maine by lunchtime with diminishing winds. However, a few showers and a couple of thunderstorms are still left over. It's a nicer afternoon than morning, with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the 80s. The dew point remains high, near 70 degrees.

Weak high pressure comes in for our Thursday night with a mostly clear sky, a little bit less humidity and fog. It should offer a better view of the full moon.

Another front from the west arrives Friday afternoon with a pop-up shower and thunderstorm. High temperatures will be close to 90 degrees.

That front moves offshore, but then an upper level low comes over on Saturday, once again with sunshine, building showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be in the 80s.

Though most of the time it's not raining Friday and Saturday, when it does rain, it is heavy with localized flash flooding possible.

It looks like we have a nice break in the weather for at least one day -- Sunday. The pick of the weekend with sunshine and a high temperature in the 80s, and less humid.

Yet another upper-level low-pressure system comes to the East Coast next week with the return of a tropical flow, meaning sun and thunderstorms for most days as we transition from July into August.
