Weather Forecast: More Snow for Some

    (Published Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018)

Cold and dry air swept across New England today, meaning even ample sunshine struggles to boost temperatures beyond the melting point and wind chill values will hover around 20 degrees at the warmest time of the day.

Clouds will drift in late day and evening, with snow showers following for Vermont by the evening commute, and the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire shortly after dinner.

Overnight, these snow showers will spread east and expand south, leaving a possible dusting to 1 inch of accumulation from central Massachusetts points north, meaning a few slick spots are possible for the Thursday morning drive.

Thereafter, milder air will keep stubborn clouds around Thursday, but scattered snow and rain showers will lack organization until another disturbance moves through the skies over New England overnight Thursday into early Friday morning, starting as raindrops for many but ending as a touch of snow.

We’ll need to watch Cape Cod and eastern Maine Friday to be sure the moisture continues moving offshore and doesn’t persist longer than the morning hours. Cold and dry air returns later Friday through Saturday, setting the stage for the next disturbance Sunday to likely come with more snow showers... until a more organized storm system is possible Sunday night into Monday.

In what appears to be a very active weather pattern, another round of rain or snow is possible midweek next week, in our exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
