After a gorgeous day yesterday, the clouds and the rain showers have already moved into parts of southern New England to start off our Tuesday. Get ready for the rain to become steady by midday and continue into this evening, spreading from south to north.

This rainfall is part of the same system that has caused flooding in parts of North Carolina. However, here in New England, we could possibly see some splashover by the coastline during high tide and some minor flooding in low lying areas. Today, expect a brisk, soggy day under overcast skies with patchy fog developing in spots. High temperatures will vary from the coastline with highs only reaching into the upper 40s as the onshore wind will keep temperatures cool.

The farther west from the coast, like Connecticut and western Massachusetts could reach into the 50s today, but it will still be a soggy Tuesday. The rain could get moderate to heavy at times around Boston by dinnertime as the leading edge of the showers continues to shift northward into southern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. For northern New England, high temperatures will reach into the upper 40s to near 50.

Overnight, temperatures will only slip into the mid to upper 40s for southern New England, lower 40s for northern New England as the rain continues to pump in from south to north. Rain will be heavy at times, and an embedded rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out for southern New England. Expect a slower morning commute on Wednesday.

Wednesday brings another rain-filled morning and early afternoon, before showers become scattered to spotty by the evening hours for southern New England and continue into northeastern New England through early Thursday morning. High temperatures on Wednesday will reach into the 50s along the coastline as the winds will shift out of the east for most, southeast for the Cape & the Islands where gusts could reach into the 30-40 mph range. For western New England, temperatures could reach into the 60s.

Through Wednesday evening and depending on where the embedded downpours set up, a soaking 1-2.5” of rainfall expected along a line from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Bangor, Maine, and spreading eastward to the coastline. This system moves out, and get ready for a warm-up Friday and extending into the weekend where some areas could reach into the 70s and 80s for high temperatures! So, there is a warmer light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to get through these soggy, damp, and chilly few days.
