Another Great Beach Weekend Coming Up

Today (Friday): Bright & pleasant. Highs in the 80s. Overnight Friday Night: Clear and quiet. Lows in the 60s, 50s north. Saturday: Fair sky, chance isolated PM thunder. Highs in the 80s. Sunday: More humid south, 80s, chance isolated PM storm. (Published Friday, Aug. 2, 2019)

It’s a beautiful Friday as we experience lower humidity and cooler air. We have tons of sunshine thanks to high-pressure from southeastern Canada. It’s a great start to a three-day weekend if you can do it.

A few spots got down into the upper 40s in northern New England, but they are now under nearly full sunshine as we rise rapidly up through the 70s and the 80s.

With light wind Friday, there will be a locally on-shore breeze keeping the beaches more like 80 degrees. There was a new moon this week so the tide is very low early in the morning and again around sunset.

Rather high tide midday, so not a lot of room at the beach. Mostly clear with some patchy fog overnight and low temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

Saturday is not quite as bright; there’s a weak front to our south, and also one from the north. After a sunny start, many clouds will build and there will be a few spot showers, even a brief thunderstorm. But they should be few and far between, and even when it may be raining, the sun will be out within a few minutes.

It’s going to be a bit more humid Saturday with high temperatures 85 to 90 degrees. Wind from the southwest will gust at 10 to 20 mph. Think of it as a typically sticky day for bicyclists riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge.

A front will push south of New England on Sunday with a new batch of lower humidity, air and sunshine. High temperatures will likely be in the 70s north and 80s south.

Monday looks very similar with sunshine high temperatures in the low 80s.

High pressure moves to our south on Tuesday; that allows warmer and more humid air to come back in with the threat for a shower thunderstorm. That threat builds into Wednesday and Thursday, when we may hit 90 degrees in a few spots.

The early call for next weekend is a return to less humid air and a pretty nice stretch of weather. Stay tuned to our First Alert 10-Day Forecast for the latest.
