Sunny and Warm Today but Rain Returns Sunday

Sunshine is developing during the afternoon and temperatures will soar through the 60s and into the 70s for many. The only exception will be across Cape Cod and the Islands, where clouds last most of the day and temperatures hold in the 50s to near 60.

We enjoy a dry slot tonight into Sunday morning, with temperatures in the 40s to near 50, before our next batch of rain arrives to end the weekend.

The showers will arrive Sunday afternoon, after morning sun is replaced by clouds. Highs will be in the 50s along the coast, with 60s inland.

The showers become a heavier rain overnight Sunday into Monday morning, which will be the wettest part of Patriots Day.

That steady rain likely departs by mid-morning, with several mostly dry hours around midday. There may even be some breaks of sunshine, as temperatures quickly zoom into the 60s with a southerly wind.

During the early to mid-afternoon another round of showers or downpours, and perhaps even a rumble of thunder, comes through. That will turn winds to the west, so runners taking a while to finish the Boston Marathon may have the benefit of a tail wind.

Dry weather settles in for the middle part of next week, with sun and seasonable temperatures, before showers return late week with another warm up.
