Sunny in Most of New England Today

Periods of Clouds, Fog Along Coastlines Expected

What to Know

  • Mostly warm and sunny across New England today.
  • A weak high pressure system will move over the ocean today, bringing some fog in some coastal areas.
  • Temperatures cool down tonight, dropping into the 40s and 50s in some areas.

With high pressure from Canada overhead, last night cooled down to the 40s and even dropped into the 30s in northern New England overnight. It is more humid with partly cloudy skies and coastal fog and expect temperatures in the 50s and 60s to start the day, especially in southern New England.

This weak high pressure system moves east over the ocean today, which means a breeze from the southeast. This is the fog wind direction so the beaches will probably stay rather cloudy or foggy - but inland we should have plenty of sunshine for a while. Instability will bring showers and possibly a thunderstorm late in the day and by evening in western and northern areas. Expect high temperature well into the 70s to near 80 degrees, 60s at the beach.

Tonight will bring partial clearing with patchy fog again as temperature dip into the 40s and 50s north, 60s south.

A warm front and low pressure in New York will generate heavier showers to our west mid day tomorrow. For most of New England, any morning fog should burn off shortly with at least a couple hours of sunshine before clouds thicken. Downpours and thunder may develop in western Massachusetts and Vermont by mid afternoon.

Showers and storms may make it into Connecticut, central Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire by evening. Most areas along the south and east facing shoreline should stay dry, but may areas may have to deal with low clouds and fog. High temperatures again return the mercury to the 70s to near 80 degrees inland, cooler at the beach.

A very cold (especially for June) upper level low pressure system crosses Monday. That means a few showers and a chance that northern mountain tops may see an inch or two of June snow. Many of us will stay dry with a mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature in the 60s, 50s north.

We should start to warm up and dry out Tuesday and Wednesday, but then a stronger warm front may generate more rain and thunderstorms by late Wednesday and Thursday. With warmer and more humid weather, we may take a run at 80 degrees in the second half of the week.
