Sunshine Lasting for Limited Time as Next System Inches Closer to Region

Low pressure tracking north of the region brought a round of overnight showers in southern New England and a period of rain north.

Unlike the Monday system, this one is moving much quicker with much less rainfall. There was just a few showers and even some thunder for central and southern New England. That is all done now.

Further north especially, well north in Maine, rain is mixing with snow this morning. No accumulation is expected, but it will be another chilly day in eastern and northern Maine.

For places in western Massachusetts and Connecticut, Wednesday will be similar to Monday with sunny conditions and a temperature close to 70 degrees. The biggest improvement Wednesday is in eastern Massachusetts, where we were stuck with a cold ocean wind and clouds on Tuesday. As for Wednesday, the wind is from the west and the temperature gets into the 60s.

It's a pretty nice Wednesday for the majority of New England. High pressure moves in Wednesday night with the clear and cool night. However, some spots north make it down to freezing. Otherwise, we are in the 30s and 40s.

Wednesday may be the pick of the week with mostly sunny skies for just about all of us, high temperature in the 50s to low 60s. With the light pressure gradient, there will be a bit of a sea breeze keeping the coastal areas cooler.

Next up Friday is a warm front from the south meeting up with a cold front from the west, in addition low pressure across New York all come together right over us with the period of moderate to heavy rain possible. Perhaps more than an inch.

Once again, we will have to watch rivers come out of their banks again, or in some cases like the Connecticut River, exacerbate flooding that is already occurring. Temperatures mostly in the 50s to near 60 degrees, cooler in the north.

High pressure from the Midwest should bring drier weather for Saturday with a good amount of sunshine, perhaps showers or even snowflakes lingering in some of the mountainous areas. Temperatures seasonable in the 50s to lower 60s.

Yet another system will be racing toward us on Sunday with increasing clouds and a chance of rain. The system may be colder and it may be a rain or snow situation in parts of northern and western New England by Sunday night into Monday.

It is a very active weather pattern, stay ahead of it with our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
