Enjoy the sunshine this afternoon, because a taste of winter arrives later this week.
High temperatures today will reach the low 50s in much of southern New England, with 40s across Northern New England. A few snow showers will fall there as well.
Clouds increase overnight with lows in the 20s and 30s.
By morning, rain and snow showers will already break out in parts of northern Vermont, northern New Hampshire, and northern Maine. That will continue to expand through the day.
In southern New England, the morning will be dry with some breaks of sunshine, before clouds eventually thicken and rain showers break out during the afternoon.
Highs will be in the 40s in northern New England, with low 50s in southern New England, but by days end temperatures will tumble. As that happens, rain will increasingly turn to snow from north to south.
Expect a snowy evening commute in much of northern New England, and even parts of western New England, but we’ll still just have rain closer to Boston.

Overnight though, the cold air continues to march in. That means we’ll end as a burst of some wet snowflakes even around Central Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and in some of the suburbs just north and west of Boston.
Aside from some lingering snow showers in the mountains of northern New England on Friday, most of us will get right back to cold sunshine Friday morning.
Accumulations will be a dusting-1" in southern New Hampshire and parts of central Massachusetts. The Maine coast will see the same.
From the Litchfield Hills into the Berkshires, and up into the Champlain and Upper Valley, expect 1-3”. Expect the same for central New Hampshire and central Maine.
Expect 3-6” of snow across the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Some of the highest peaks in the Northern Greens, around Jay Peak, will likely get more than 6”.
As the snow and clouds pull away Friday, with the emerging sun, winds will whip. Expect gusts over 40 mph as cold air flows in. Air temperatures will hold in the 30s to near 40, but it will feel colder when you factor in the wind.
Highs on Saturday, despite sunshine, will also be in the 30s to around 40.
We do warm back up closer to 50 for the end of the weekend, but then another round of rain and snow showers late Monday into Tuesday ushers in another blast of wintry chill for part of next week.
