After a chilly start, we resume our thaw by day... and soon to be both day and night over the next couple of days.

After sunshine today, clouds increase late in the day and thicken up overnight, with a weak disturbance dropping a few light mixed showers across northern New England, and an isolated freezing rain sprinkle possible all the way south to the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border. Though anything that far south would be very light and brief, we can’t rule out a slick spot or two in southern New Hampshire after midnight tonight.

Thursday will bring plenty of clouds after limited breaks of morning sun and a southerly wind bumping temperatures through the 40s... and even into the lower 50s for some of southern New England, including the Boston area. Though an isolated sprinkle is possible, no organized rain is expected.

By predawn Friday, showers arrive for the vast majority of New England and the wind freshens out of the southwest. Showers will be slow to transition to a steadier, heavier rain in eastern New England until afternoon, though northern and western New England will see periodic light rain for most of the day.

Amazingly, temperatures will climb into the 50s far and wide, pushing 60 degrees in the Boston area, and this will result in areas of dense fog, the combination of which with rain will make for a slow evening commute.

Cold air squeezes south from Canada Saturday as precipitation continues, meaning plowable snow in the North Country, a battlezone with wintry mix in central New England and most likely rain in southern New England, though it’s still too early to pinpoint this very tight rain/ice/snow line.

Drier but colder air is likely on Sunday, and colder air takes hold again for next week, with a relatively high chance of snow Tuesday and perhaps into Wednesday in our exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
