Weather Forecast: Patchy Drizzle Before Showers

Thursday night: Drizzle. Lows in the 40s. Friday: Cloudy, patchy drizzle, showers return late. Highs in the 50s.

    (Published Thursday, May 2, 2019)

We have had quite a week in the northeast, where it feels more like the Pacific Northwest. Although southwestern Connecticut has enjoyed some sunshine and temperatures in the 60s, this may add to some instability and trigger a thunderstorm this evening.

Low clouds, drizzle, patchy fog, and a few showers remain in the forecast for us all through Friday. Temperatures stay in the 40s all night, rising slightly into the 50s Friday afternoon as a warm front lifts north.

Friday afternoon will bring scattered showers and a couple storms across western New England, tracking from west to east through the late afternoon and evening.

A cold front sweeps through and will be south of us mid-morning on Saturday which will end our rain chances for a short time. The clouds may take a while to erode away on Saturday, but we do dry off late morning through afternoon. Sunshine will peek through during the late afternoon and where we get sunshine, temperatures warm into the 60s.

Sunday brings us a near washout as a coastal low tracks south of New England. An onshore breeze and steady rainfall will sweep across southern New England, while a drier day is forecast up north. Temperatures will be around 50 degrees to end the weekend.

Our jet stream becomes a little more amplified next week, and the strong blocking Bermuda High breaks down a bit, which means longer dry periods and modifying temperatures. Sun is in the forecast Monday and Tuesday with highs in the 60s. Unsettled weather returns by midweek.
