While all eyes are on strengthening Hurricane Dorian headed in the general direction of Florida, there’s a massive weather system in Canada in control of our weather here in New England to start our Labor Day weekend.

A huge upper level low pressure system over Hudson Bay, Canada, is sending a push of slightly cool, nice, dry air our way to begin the weekend. It comes in the form of a cold front this afternoon, which may trigger a shower or a thunderstorm. The storms, however, should be brief and most of us are going to have a nice day. There will be plenty of sunshine this morning, with a mixture of clouds and sun this afternoon. High temperature in the 70s north and 80s south. A breeze from the southwest gusting to 25 mph along the south coast.

Much like last weekend, high pressure builds into southeastern Canada with it’s dry and somewhat chilly air tonight and tomorrow. Temperatures tonight will be in the 40s north, and 50s south.

With plenty of sunshine Saturday, high temperatures should get to about 70° in northern New England and 75 to 80° in southern New England. High pressure crests overhead Saturday night, which means it will be clear and chilly. In northern cold spots temperatures will settle in the 30s. Otherwise 40s and 50s to start our Sunday. With the high pressure shifting a little bit east, wind will come in off of the water Sunday, from the east about 5 to 15 mph, and clouds may fill the sky during the afternoon. It is a nice day, with a high temperature in the 70s, perhaps cooling to the 60s near the shore.

High pressure pushes further east Monday. With a low pressure system moving in from the west, expect showers or perhaps steady rain developing. The temperatures will be in the 60s north and 70s south.

It’s about that time that major Hurricane Dorian will be nearing the Florida coast. The latest guidance has slowed the approach, giving it more time to ramp up. It could then maybe even lose some energy before it goes ashore. When and if it goes to shore is still quite uncertain. Either way, it should stay well off to our south for the time being.

Next week in New England may start off a little on the cool side but we expect a warming trend, as seen here in our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
