Significant Rain Event Coming Through the Area

Today (Wednesday): Sun and wispy clouds. Highs near 40. Overnight Wednesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the 20s. Thursday: Sun & increasing high-altitude clouds. Highs in the 40s. (Published Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018)

A nice Wednesday, followed by a warmer and dry Thursday, then a wet and windy Friday.

A lot of times when we have a pretty Wednesday, the weather turns for the weekend. This time it’s going to turn even quicker.

Clear cold 10s and 20s to start out this morning, give way to a sunny and seasonable Wednesday, with high temperature close to 40 degrees. Winds ease and come in more from the southwest. Another seasonably cold night with a big bright moon tonight and low temperature in the 20s to low 30s. Sunny most of tomorrow, high in the 40s.

Clouds race in tomorrow night with rain developing early Friday. Rain becomes heavy at times Friday with a chance of afternoon or nighttime thunderstorms. Temperatures climb through the 40s into the 50s for most of New England with a portion of southern New England getting into the lower 60s by evening.

We may have a few record high temperatures set late at night for both Friday and Saturday. Rainfall amounts in excess of 2 inches locally may cause some flash flooding.

Wind increases from the south gusting past 50 miles per hour near the shore the first part of the day, becoming less windy late.

Heavy rain ends Friday night, leaving fog and drizzle to start our Saturday. Temperatures holding in the 50s for a while before falling back through the 40s Saturday afternoon, all the way to the 30s in the mountains of western New England where a few snow showers are possible late Saturday.

It will become windy and colder Sunday with mostly dry weather, outside of some mountain snow showers, high temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.

Christmas Eve Monday features a weak upper-level disturbance. It may generate a little light snow, or rain or snow near the shore. It does not look like a big deal but it is our last chance to coat the ground with some white for Christmas.

Christmas day looks like it’s going to be bright and seasonable with a high temperature in the 20s up north to the 30s in the south. Dry weather should continue into the middle of the week before the threat for some more wet or white weather comes in by next weekend.
