Chance of Scattered Showers Thanks to Cold Front

Today (Tuesday): Variable clouds, chance sprinkle. Highs in the 70s. Overnight Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 60s. Wednesday: Summer warmth, humidity, breezy, chance PM thunder. Highs in the 80s. (Published Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019)

A weak front developed over New England Monday night, bringing some patchy fog and low clouds across central and southern New England.

We may begin our morning with a spot or two of drizzle in the southern part of the region while it will stay cold and dry up north. Even a frost advisory is in effect in northern Maine early Tuesday morning.

The cool high-pressure system that moved in behind Dorian is now on the way out.

There have been a couple of significant fronts across the nation: one with record heat and thunderstorms continuing in the deep South, another with Midwest thunderstorms Monday and severe weather in Iowa.

It looks like the heat is going to stay away, but we are going to turn warmer with the threat of a shower or thunderstorm, especially late Tuesday and Wednesday.

For Tuesday, we have a mix of sun and clouds. High temperature will be in the 70s south and 60s north with higher humidity. Wind from the east will come in from the south later in the day about 10 to 15 mph.

Showers cross northern New England Tuesday night. It will be partly cloudy and mostly dry south, with low temperature in the 60s.

Another front comes in from Canada Wednesday afternoon with a thunderstorm across the north. It will be partly sunny across the south. High temperature will be well into the 80s with moderate humidity and a wind from the southwest will gust 10 to 20 mph.

The front settles to the south coast early Thursday with a few showers or thunderstorms early, followed by partial clearing. Highs will be in the 70s to near 80 degrees.

Another cool high-pressure system comes in for Friday with a return to sunshine and temperatures in the 60s. That high should move fairly quickly offshore, allowing for a wind from the south to become gusty by Saturday with a few thunderstorms possible.

The weekend is mostly dry, with a warming trend, back up near 80 degrees by Sunday. Stay tuned to the latest developments in our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
