After our second earliest heat wave on record for the Boston area, relief returns for the weekend with high temperatures ranging from 20-25 degrees cooler than Friday’s high temperatures.
From commencement ceremonies to charity races across the region, this weekend will be picture perfect for any of your outdoor plans, but just make sure to wear your sunscreen as we’ll see plentiful sunshine for both days with highs into the 60s. We’ll see a sea breeze develop along the coastline so you might need the light jacket if you're right on the coast.
However, after sunset tonight, temperatures take a dive. Overnight lows slip into the upper 40s south, lower 40s north with a few places slipping into the 30s under mostly clear skies.
With a few areas in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, northern New Hampshire, and portions of Maine likely seeing temperatures into the 30s for a few hours, a few Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories have been issued for those locations. If you have any plants or crops that are sensitive to the cold, you can cover them with a blanket to save them from the freezing temperatures.
After a chilly start to Sunday, temperatures quickly rebound back into the mid to upper 60s under another sun filled sky before more clouds stroll in by the late afternoon.
High pressure is in control for the weekend, which is why we are seeing such a gorgeous and dry weekend. That high pressure slips off the coastline, which will allow a system to slide in for our Monday, bringing a cooler and damp start to the work week.
This system is quick moving so Tuesday will be dry and mild with highs near 70, before spotty showers return Wednesday and Thursday with a chance for thunderstorms Thursday.
