Despite the nor’easter that impacted much of coastal New England, the storm’s powerful winds left the trees across northern New England untouched.
There were some breaks of sunshine, and not too much wind, in places like Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine this week.
Heading into the weekend expect a mix of sun and clouds across the mountains, with highs in the low 60s. A spot shower may come through Saturday night, then we’re back to partly cloudy conditions there Sunday and Monday with highs in the 50s and 60s.
So, with the weather cooperating, here are some of the best places to enjoy fall foliage this weekend.
AT PEAK NOW
For areas along the Green Mountains, like Stowe, into Northeastern Vermont, we’re at peak color right now. That means a drive along Route 100 will offer stunning views.
We’re also at peak color right now along I-89 in New Hampshire, up into the White Mountains. The Kancamagus Highway is always a nice option to take in the color this time of year.

In Maine peak color is being reported across the northern part of the state.
AT PEAK SOON
From the Champlain Valley, into Southern Vermont and the Upper Valley, we’re currently at moderate color.
Moderate color also encompasses much of Northern Connecticut, Western and Central Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and most of Maine.
We’ll be at peak within the next week in many of these areas.
LOW TO MODERATE COLOR
In Central Connecticut, Northern Rhode Island, and around Greater Boston, we’re quickly moving into moderate color.
Even close to Boston, really just outside of 128, some very nice pops of red, orange, and yellow are developing.
CLOSER TO THE COAST
Color near the coast, to this point, remains fairly spotty and low. Unfortunately, in these areas, the prolonged wind gusts 40-60 MPH through the end of this week will have an impact on foliage.
Leaf drop may rob us of some peak color that usually develops late month.
This is especially true for the South Shore and Cape Cod, as well as parts of Rhode Island and coastal Connecticut.
