Wind and Rain Ramp Up Ahead of Cold Front

We started off with dense fog across the region, which will subside through this afternoon as temperatures warm-up.

Winds increase along the coast, as the next batch of rain slides in from the west ahead of a cold front. Do not be surprised if you hear a few rumbles of thunder later this afternoon and into the early evening.

Speaking of the evening, the timing for pockets of heavy downpours and strong winds are between 3-6 p.m. for most of southern New England, with the evening rush likely being impacted with delays and slow downs.

Wind gusts will likely be the strongest closer to the Cape and Islands and along the Maine coastline by 4 p.m. with gusts in the 50 mph range. Winds should subside by 8 p.m.

As far as icing concerns, those will remain into the early afternoon in far northern New Hampshire, and northern Maine, as temperatures warm above freezing, we’ll see the changeover from snow to mix, to freezing rain, and eventually changing over to just rain.

High temperatures range from mid to upper 30s north, to 40s to mid to upper 50s south.

The system clears out tonight, with some lingering showers for northern New England, southern New England will be drying out. Overnight lows are expected between lower 30s north, low to mid 30s south, with a few mountain and border flurries.

We could see some slick spots overnight as temperatures cool to near freezing so any standing water, ponding on the sides of the roadways could freeze.
