Thursday is the last day of near or above normal high temperatures for New England. Starting Friday, we make a slide into a winter chill that will persist through the end of the 10-day forecast.

Along the way, we’ll find some chances for snow, as an active storm path to our south meanders close enough to raise the stakes for New England from time to time.

For now, that southern storm track is producing snow from Texas into Mexico on Thursday, but is so far south that New England is enjoying fair and seasonable air beneath a blend of sun and clouds that have been dropping a few lake effect snow showers in the mountains — all the way from Lake Ontario to the mountains of Northern and Western New England with very little accumulation.

A flurry is even possible Thursday evening as far east as the New Hampshire Seacoast!

[NECN] The Top 5 Worst Snowstorms to Hit New England

New England is no stranger to piles of snow being dumped onto the region each winter. Take a look at some of the worst storms to hit in modern history.

After a fair Friday, showers will move north onto Nantucket Friday night, then light snow will turn to light rain on Cape Cod Saturday.

By Saturday evening and night, it’s likely that snow moves north into Plymouth and Bristol Counties, and possible that a period of light snow brushes the remainder of eastern New England overnight Saturday, depending upon the ocean storm track.

Sunday and Monday will be chilly and fair ahead of our next storm threat — likely cold enough for mostly snow — Tuesday into Wednesday. An even colder shot of wintry air builds in for the end of next week.
