Winter Storm Makes for Messy Friday Morning Commute

Another winter storm is making for a messy Friday morning commute.

Heavy, wet snow was reported on many New England highways and roads by the wee hours. By 5 a.m., some roadways were already slick.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDot) was urging drivers to use caution while they used nearly 1,400 pieces of snow clearing equipment to treat roadways.

As a precaution, MassDot reduced the speed on the Massachusetts Turnpike to 40 mph from the New York border to Springfield's Interchange 6.

Although the snow is expected to end by noon, several schools delayed openings due to the storm.
