Buildings Evacuated Due to Gas Leak in Boston's Beacon Hill

A former Narragansett, Rhode Island, resident was sentenced Friday to 186 months in federal prison for trafficking cocaine and crack cocaine, and for being a felon in possession of firearms.

Crews responded Monday to a gas leak in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood after a construction company hit a high-pressure gas line.

The Boston Fire Department said in a tweet that buildings were evacuated after the incident, which occured at 9:55 a.m. in the area of 41 Temple Street.

Witnesses reported a strong smell of gas due to the leak.

The fire department said around 12 p.m. the gas leak had been shut down and that buildings were being checked to make sure it was safe for people to return.
