Man Dies After Assault in Cambridge Park

A man in his 60s was assaulted at a park in Cambridge. He was pronounced dead by the Middlesex County District Attorney Wednesday.

A man died Wednesday after being attacked in a park in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Police said a Cambridge man in his 60s was found on the New Street side of Danehy Park with "apparent head trauma" around 7 p.m. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are investigating the case as an assault.

The park is well known, and borders a Whole Foods and movie theater. It has neighbors frightened by what’s happened.

"Sometimes, there are a lot of people walking around alone in the park," said resident Michelle Side. "There's a dog park right in that area and a lot of people do go to that dog park at night."

The man was found more towards the entrance of the park. The field lights were left on Wednesday night to illuminate for detectives as they processed the scene.

"It's pretty dead in the winter. In the summer, they have the lights on all night, so it's super busy in the summer, so it feels more safe," Side said. "The winter is always dead."

The investigation is being carried out by the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Cambridge Police and Massachusetts State Police.
