First White Shark of the Season Tagged off Cape Cod

A New Hampshire family is heartbroken after their beloved dog was hit and killed by a car on their street.

The first white shark of the 2018 season was tagged in the water off Cape Cod Monday.

Dr. Greg Skomal, a marine fisheries biologist working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, tagged the 11-foot shark a 1/4 of a mile off Truro, Massachusetts.

The data collected by the tags are invaluable to researchers examining the local habits, behaviors and broad scale movements, and migrations of the white sharks.

The research is to support the sustainability of the white sharks and to provide information to people in areas where sharks visit.

According to the Sharktivity app, 7 white sharks were spotted on Monday.
