Eovaldi has a 6.00 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP, 16 strikeouts and 11 walks over 21 innings in four starts this season. He's no stranger to elbow procedures -- the 29-year-old has had two Tommy John surgeries in his career.
The Red Sox placed Eovaldi on the 10-day injured list over the weekend. Hector Velazquez likely will get a few starts in Eovaldi's spot in the rotation.
Eovaldi signed a four-year, $68 million contract with the Red Sox over the winter.
Boston's game Monday night against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park was postponed due to rain. It will be made up Tuesday as part of a day-night doubleheader.
