NH Pastor to Sleep in Church Steeple After Raising Thousands for Congregation

Newmarket Community Church raised much more than her goal of $8,500, so Pastor Patty Marsden will spend the night in its steeple

A pastor in New Hampshire has raised thousands of dollars for her church, which was forced to close due to the coronavirus crisis, with a promise of sleeping in the steeple.

A New Hampshire pastor said she was willing to go to great heights if her congregation raised $8,500 to keep their church going while their doors remain closed during the coronavirus lockdown.

They raised $12,0000, so Pastor Patty Marsden is set to spend the night in the steeple of Newmarket Community Church at some point in the next few weeks.

“My biggest concern lately maybe has been spiders,” Marsden said.

The money is keeping the church going while their doors remain closed. Their food pantry is feeding people during the pandemic, and Marsden said keeping it going was a big reason for raising the funds.

A New Hampshire pastor says she will spend the night in her church's steeple if the congregation is able to raise enough money to stay afloat.

Marsden announced the idea on Easter Sunday in a virtual sunrise service from the steeple.

Now the church is starting a new initiative, encouraging people to wear masks.

“It’s the greatest commandment, to love your neighbor as yourself, and by wearing a mask we really believe we are loving our neighbors,” she said.
