A dump truck that overturned on Interstate 93 north in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel Monday morning spilled gravel and caused a traffic backup.

Police said the driver, a 30-year-old Mattapan man, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the Freightliner truck is owned by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.

Only one lane was open to traffic for a couple of hours where back-ups stretched for miles. By about 10 a.m., state police said the truck and the debris had been cleared.
