Saugus Swimmer Pulled From Water Dies

Police have identified the victim as a 20-year-old who was living in Lynn, Massachusetts at the time of his death.

A swimmer who was reported underwater and taken to a hospital has died, according to the Essex District Attorney.

Police identified the victim as 20-year-old Uwaldo Erazo, a Honduras resident who was living with a cousin in Lynn at the of his death.

According to police, the man attempted to swim to an island in the middle of Silver Lake at Breakheart Reservation in Saugus, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon. About halfway there he struggled and went under.

His two cousins, who he was with at the time, tried to find him but were unsuccessful, police said. 

Police received two calls just before 5 p.m. reporting that a person had gone missing and possibly drowned. 

Police said emergency personnel, along with Saugus, Stoneham and Wakefield Fire Departments, responded. The victim was pulled from the water at 5:53 p.m.

He was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m., police said.

Foul play is not suspected.
