Woman, Dog Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway in Sharon

A 73-year-old Rockport woman and her dog were ejected from their vehicle after colliding with another car

A woman and her dog were killed Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash in Sharon, Massachusetts.

State Police responded around 2:23 p.m. to reports of an accident on Interstate 95 northbound, north of Exit 8 in Sharon, at the 17 mile-marker.

A preliminary investigation shows that a 73-year-old Rockport woman was driving a Jaguar sedan and a 79-year-old Brewster woman was driving a Volkswagen Passat. Both were traveling on I-95 north when they collided, causing the Jaguar driver to lose control and spin across the left two lanes, exiting the highway.

The Jaguar went down an embankment and struck a tree, ejecting the driver and her dog. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has not been identified pending notification of family.

Police are not sure why the two cars collided, but the cause of the crash is under investigation.
