Morning Snowstorm Makes Roads Slushy, Delays Schools

While last week it was all snow, this week it’s mostly wet – at least for Southern New England

Police say a robber walked in to the sushi restaurant Tuesday night, pulled a gun out of his waistband and demanded money before the sushi chef ran after him wielding a large, shiny and sharp knife.

Yet another messy Monday morning commute. While last week it was all snow, this week it’s mostly wet – at least for Southern New England. Overnight snow that fell is melting and/or being washed away in Eastern Mass, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

This is a warm front, and like its name suggests, we will (eventually) warm up. Cold “holdouts” along Route 2 in Massachusetts and into Southern New Hampshire will see little warming this afternoon. It’s here that we may see some icing into that afternoon, compounding travel issues and keeping the sanders out a bit longer.

As for Central and Northern New England, roughly from Brattleboro, Vermont to Laconia, N.H. and Fryeburg and Rumford, Maine, this is where the “sweet spot” may lie.

Here we may see up to four-to-nine inches of snow depending on terrain, and where the cold air draws the line in the sand - or snow. In the meantime, highs in Southern New England will make it into the 40s with a few 50s on the Cape and The Islands. The storm wraps in the afternoon with leftover mist and drizzle.

Clouds will break for the Pats game as temperatures slowly drift back below freezing later at night – after the wind dries the roads. Long range, the bitter air is on the move. It promises to numb us by late week as a chunk of Siberian air is hurled toward New England. It’s possible this could be a record cold event for December for parts of New England. We’ll keep you posted.
