Authorities are concerned after three people are dead in what appears to be a random attack.
An investigation is underway after three people were found dead inside of a home in Newton, Massachusetts on Sunday.
Police responded to a home on Broadway Street shortly after 10 a.m. following a call by someone known by the homeowners. Responding officers found three people, whom authorities have described as "elderly," fatally beaten and stabbed inside the home.
According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, earlier in the day someone tried to break into a home on Brookside Avenue, about a half-mile from the home of the fatal incident. Police received a call about the incident shortly before 7a.m. on Sunday. Authorities say they are not sure whether the incidents are connected.
Sources with knowledge of the investigation tell NBC10 Boston that the victims appeared to have been stabbed. Two of the victims were celebrating their 50th anniversary and were preparing to renew their wedding vows this morning but never showed up at the church. Investigators believe this was a random attack, the sources said.

"As you can imagine, this would be tragic on any day. To have family gathered for this kind of a celebration makes it particularly tragic," Ryan said in a press conference Sunday night.
Authorities say there were signs of forced entry into the victims' home. Authorities have not provided the names of the victims.
"I am very concerned with such a violent crime taking place, where this individual or individuals are still at large," Newton Police Chief John Carmichael. "We won't rest until we find out who did this."

According to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, police are now looking for the person or people responsible for the deaths.
Authorities are asking residents in the Nonantum area to remain vigilant, check door and window locks and report any suspicious activity to Newton Police.
"This is the night to lock your doors and windows,” Ryan said in a press conference Sunday night.
