14-Year-Old Dies During Football Practice in New York

The NBC Boston Investigators are tracking the death of another young football player. This time a 14-year-old in New York City on Tuesday. Dominic Bess is the latest to die during football workouts in the past few months. The number is growing, as six young football players have now died across the country since June. Bess collapsed in the Bronx on a football field while running sprints. Temperatures were at 90 degrees, but humidity made it feel like 100. Bess’ cause of death has not yet been determined. The NBC Boston Investigators recently reported on heat stroke, quoting the Korey Stringer Institute as saying “heat stroke is 100% preventable.” One family that lost their son to heat stroke during football this summer, 16-year-old Zach Martin, has started a foundation to teach more about preventing heat stroke.
