Brookline Debates Renaming School Named After Slave Owner

The Edward Devotion elementary school in Brookline, Mass. is undergoing a $120 million renovation, but when it’s all finished, what will the school be called? The public elementary school is named after the man who back in the 18th century donated the property to Brookline for a school. But recently, Deborah Brown did some research and discovered Devotion was a slave owner. In March, Brown co petitioned the town to have the name of the school changed. She says there has been some push back that overall most want the change. The final vote has been postponed and is set for next Tuesday when it will be decided whether or not the elementary school will have a name change.
