1 Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Lowell, Massachusetts

A 52-year-old man was killed in a 2-vehicle crash in Lowell, Massachusetts early Wednesday morning.

Police said Juan Ramon Rivera, of Lowell, was killed in the crash that happened at the intersection of Gorham and Manchester streets just after 7 a.m.

A preliminary investigation showed that a Honda Accord was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV from behind.

Surveillance video shows the two vehicles crashing and the SUV slamming into a utility pole. The Honda Accord that hit it crashes through a sign and then stops at a fence.

The SUV plowed right into Brandon Douangmala's garden, hitting his porch, just inches from the kitchen where his mom was making coffee.

"The crash happened just while she was standing here," Douangmala said. "All different scenarios could have happened. It could have been into the house. It's very close to my window. The pole could have fallen into the house."

People who live in the area said Rivera was a father and was a regular at the Dunkin' Donuts near where the accident occurred.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle was not injured and remained on the scene.

The intersection of Gorham and Manchester streets was temporarily closed as a result of the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Lowell Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.
