Funeral for Boston Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Accident Scheduled

A funeral for a Boston Fire Department firefighter who died in an off-duty motorcycle accident is scheduled for Thursday.

Thirty-one-year-old Justin D. Poitras died July 2 after he succumbed to the injuries he received in a crash. Authorities did not give details on the incident, but the Boston Globe reports that the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Dorchester area. The crash involved a car, according to the Globe.

Poitras’ wake for active firefighters will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home. His funeral is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saint Rita Church.

Poitras joined the department on Oct. 31, 2016 and was assigned to Engine Company 42. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He is survived by his parents and brother, who is a fellow firefighter.
