A Massachusetts woman is facing multiple charges including operating under the influence in a Thursday morning crash that injured a police officer in Milford.
Emily Cicconi, 22, of Milford, was taken into custody following the crash at the intersection of West and Congress streets at about 2 a.m. She was charged with OUI, OUI Drugs, failure to stop, operating a motor vehicle negligently as to endanger, possession of class B drug, possession of open container of alcohol in motor vehicle, possession of unlawful fireworks, and possession of storing fireworks improperly.
Police said Officer Steve Sousa was on Congress Street when Cicconi went through a flashing red light on West Street and struck Sousa's cruiser.
Sousa was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a concussion, bumps, and bruises. He is expected to recover.
Witness Robert Willis said he jumped in to help the officer, as well as Cicconi and a man who was in Cicconi's Lexus.
"He seemed frazzled and confused so I helped him get out," Willis said, speaking of the officer. "Make sure he was OK. Make sure the young couple was OK."
Cicconi is expected to be arraigned later in the day in Milford District Court. It's unclear if she has an attorney.
