A neighborhood bar in South Boston is getting ready to shut down.
According to a Twitter post from @chipsy231, The Playwright on E Broadway is closing on Sunday, August 6, with a sign out front saying "All of us would like to thank you all for your patronage over the past 17 years!" It is not known for sure what will be going into the space, though @chipsy231 says that a place with a new name could be opening there in a couple of weeks.
The Playwright, which first opened in 2000, has offered pub grub and comfort food over the years along with draft beer and cocktails; its menu includes such items as French onion soup, wings, burgers, steak tips, baked cod, tacos, cheesesteak, Cubanos, and more.
The address for this soon-to-close dining and drinking spot in Southie is: The Playwright, 658 E Broadway, South Boston, MA, 02127.
