Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter Maddie has sustained serious injuries from an off-roading accident Sunday, according to authorities and a spokesman for the family.
The accident, first reported by TMZ, occurred as the 8-year-old was riding in a Polaris off road vehicle, more commonly called an ATV, in Kentwood, La., when it flipped over into a pond. TMZ reported Maddie was submerged under water for several minutes and unconscious before being airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Citing a police statement released by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Department, People.com reports the 8-year-old was "trapped and secured" by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting in freezing waters.
Late Sunday night, Spears' rep told E! News, "The details the media are reporting surrounding the incident regarding Jamie Lynn's daughter Maddie are incorrect. Right now the Spears family asks that everyone respect their privacy during this time and appreciates all the prayers and support for their family."
Late Monday Maddie's aunt, singer Britney Spears, took to social media to ask for prayers for her niece.
