A woman lived with a partially decomposed body for at least a year in an upscale Brookline, Massachusetts, home, the district attorney's office said.
The Norfolk District Attorney's Office said that they were alerted to the disturbing discovery by a visitor to a home on Clinton Road on Dec. 14.
State and local police visited the residence, where they found the partially decomposed body of a woman. It's unclear when the woman died.
According to neighbors, two sisters lived in the home and kept to themselves. Neighbor Marc Epstein said his wife had called the police about the run down home even before the body was discovered.
"There's been broken windows the house has not been taken care of," Epstein said.
Other neighbors said overall, what happened what just an unfortunate situation.
"You want to do the right thing and you want to look out for your neighbors," said Epstein. "If they want to be left alone you understand that."
Police say there were no clear signs of foul play, but an autopsy was ordered. The results of the autopsy are still pending.
